Any eligible candidates can get a seat in these programmes on the basis of their score in NID Design Aptitude Test. In order to be a member of design programmes offered at National Institute of Design (NID) candidates is to give test organised by NID in NID DAT, Prelims and NID DAT, Mains. Those candidates who are shortlisted based on their criteria or cut off in NID DAT Prelims are only eligible for NID DAT, mains examination.

The test conducted by NID DAT, Prelims is a written aptitude test, whereas NID DAT, Mains comprises of a Studio Test and Interview panel. Those students who cleared both these admission rounds they are offered admission in design programmes offered at colleges accepting NID entrance exam scores for admission.

Candidates can also get through Graduate Diploma Programme in Design (GDPD) at NID.
 GDPD course at NID Vijayawada and NID Kurukshetra.

It’s a big news NID informs that two new Campuses, are going to start very soon that is, NID Bhopal and NID Jorhat will commence their academic session from 2019. Thus, candidates applying for GDPD programmes will be considered for admissions to NID, Bhopal and NID Jorhat based on their  merit.

It’s a four-year- course of Bachelor of Design (B.Des.) programme is offered only at NID Ahmedabad in the following areas of specialisation:

Eligibility Criteria for B.Des. & GDPD

All applicants for the B.Des. and GDPD programme fulfill the following criteria;

Age Limit:
For Indian Nationals in General Category: Upper age limit for candidates is 20 years.
For Indian Nationals in Reserved Category (OBC-NCL, SC, ST): Upper age limit for candidates
 is 23 years.
For Indian Nationals in PwD Reserved Category: Upper age limit for candidates is 25 years.
For Foreign Nationals in Overseas (Supernumerary) Category: Upper age limit for candidates 
is 20 years.

Educational Qualification: Applicants who have passed or will appear for higher secondary (10+2) 
 qualifying examinations in any stream (Science, Arts, Commerce, etc.) from any recognised board 
of education such as CBSE, IB, ICSE or their equivalent.

Graduate Diploma Programme in Design (GDPD)

Eligibility Criteria for M.Des

All applicants for the M.Des. programme (any discipline) must fulfil the following criteria

Age Limit:
For Indian Nationals in General Category: Upper age limit for candidates is 30 years.
For Indian Nationals in Reserved Category (OBC-NCL, SC & ST): Upper age limit for candidates is 33 years.
For Indian Nationals in PwD Reserved Category: Upper age limit for candidates is 35 years.
For Foreign Nationals in Overseas (Supernumerary) Category: Upper age limit for candidates is 30 years.

Educational Qualification: 
The candidate must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications to be considered eligible:
Bachelor degree of minimum 4-year duration in any specialization, after 10+2 system, from any university or institute recognised by law in India. Condition: Applicant must (have passed/have appeared for/be appearing for) the Bachelor degree examinations.

OR

Bachelor degree of minimum 3-year duration in any specialization, under the 10+2 system. Condition: Applicants must have passed the Bachelor degree examinations.

OR

Full-time Diploma of minimum 4-year duration in Design/Fine Arts/Applied Arts/ Architecture, after 10+2 system, from any university or institute recognised by law in India. Condition: Applicants must (have passed/have appeared for/be appearing for) the Diploma examinations.


Exam CentersAccording to NID’s website both B.Des and M.Des exams are conducted in 12 exam centers as of now. The list goes as follows: Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Chandigarh, Chennai, Delhi, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai and Nagpur.
